Türkiye ordered not to deport a Syrian refugee to the Syrian Arab Republic

Last December 18, 2024, the UN Human Rights Committee ordered Türkiye, through interim measures, not to deport a Syrian refugee to the Syrian Arab Republic. 

This is a landmark interim decision in a context of uncertainty surrounding the fate of millions of Syrian asylum seekers worldwide.

The case will also be the opportunity for the UN Human Rights Committee to review the practice of so-called “voluntary returns”, in reality forced returns and unlawful and arbitrary deportations”.
